Ulcers are actually caused by a bacterial infection which is something that many people do not realize. Although bacteria may be at the root of the problem, there are a number of different things that we can do which will agitate the situation. Things such as smoking, drinking coffee or alcohol and even taking certain types of drugs for a long time can create the problem along with the bacteria that is probably behind it. We'll get back to this in a little bit. There are several symptoms that stomach ulsers may cause in you, some of which you will feel in connection with another and others that you may not experience at all. These include poor appetite, belching, difficulty with heartburn and indigestion, weight loss, fatigue and blood in the stool. Typically, the blood that you will experience in the stool will be darker in color, if it is bright red is probably a problem that is closer to the rectum. More than likely a doctor is going to prescribe an antibiotic along with some kind of an anti-ulcer drug. The antibiotic will kill the bacteria that is causing the problem but you should know that it will more than likely kill good bacteria that is within your body which could cause other problems, such as a yeast infections. That is why many people with stomach ulsers tend to look for a more natural treatment to take care of the problem. Stomach ulcers can often be treated with lifestyle changes to one degree or another. Although the bacteria that is behind the ulcer may still be present, you can reduce the symptoms and often take care of the problem by avoiding some of the things that affect you the worst.
